Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas launched its fifth weekly rotation on the Madrid–Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) route on 12 July 2026, increasing capacity on what has become one of the more competitive transatlantic corridors for Argentine passengers and European visitors to Argentina.

South Atlantic Competition

The Madrid–Buenos Aires route is now served by four airlines: Iberia, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Air Europa, and Plus Ultra. This level of competition is relatively recent - for most of the past decade the route was dominated by two carriers.

Plus Ultra operates the service with an Airbus A340-300, typically running four times weekly. The additional fifth frequency from July applies during the peak southern winter travel period, when Argentine families visit Spain and Spaniards head to Argentina.

For travellers, more competition on a route generally translates to more flexible scheduling options and pricing pressure during sale periods, though the A340 used by Plus Ultra is a smaller, older aircraft than the newer widebodies deployed by Iberia and Air Europa on the same route.

What This Means for Bookings

The additional frequency creates more departure options across the week. Madrid to Buenos Aires is typically a 13–14 hour overnight flight in the westbound direction and around 12 hours eastbound. The full range of schedule options now gives travellers more choice over travel days, which can matter for pricing as midweek departures often carry lower fares than Fridays and Sundays.

Buenos Aires and Beyond

Buenos Aires is the primary arrival point for most international visitors to Argentina, with Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza/EZE) handling long-haul flights. From there, domestic connections to Mendoza for wine country, Patagonia, Salta, and other destinations are available from Jorge Newbery Aeroparque in the city.
