Arrivals terminal at Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires

American Airlines began operating its Boeing 777-300ER on the New York JFK – Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) route from 2 September 2026, replacing the Boeing 787-9 that previously served the route. The switch brings the airline’s new Flagship Suite business class cabin to South America for the first time.

The New Flagship Suite Cabin

The 777-300ER configured for American’s international routes carries the airline’s fully enclosed Flagship Suite in business class — individual suites with sliding doors, lie-flat beds measuring up to 76 inches, and direct aisle access from every seat. This replaces the previous angled-flat configuration on the 787.

Premium Economy and Main Cabin seating capacity increases with the larger aircraft. The 777-300ER seats around 369 passengers in a three-class configuration compared to the 787-9’s 285.

Route Details

  • Route: JFK to Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE)
  • Flight numbers: AA 951 (outbound) / AA 952 (return)
  • Frequency: Daily
  • Flight time: Approximately 11–12 hours southbound, 10–11 hours northbound
  • Aircraft: Boeing 777-300ER (fleet number varies)

Award availability on the new Flagship Suite can be redeemed using AAdvantage miles; business class award rates on this route typically require 57,500 miles one way at standard rates, though partner programmes (including British Airways Avios) price the same seats differently.

Implications for Travellers to Argentina

For anyone flying from the US East Coast to Buenos Aires, the upgrade in cabin product is meaningful. The previous 787-9 business class was one of American’s older configurations, and the Flagship Suite represents a significant step forward in comfort for a sub-12-hour flight.

EZE handles all international long-haul arrivals. From the airport, taxis and remises (pre-booked private cars) into the city centre take 45–60 minutes depending on traffic; the journey costs approximately ARS 15,000–20,000 by remis. Rideshare apps are available at the terminal.

For travellers connecting south to Puerto Madryn and Patagonia, internal connections operate from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP), not EZE. Budget a minimum of four hours between landing at EZE and any domestic departure. Search flights to Buenos Aires from the US and beyond to compare current fares and availability on this route.
