Ushuaia Summer Season 2026-27: Book Now Before Prices Rise

October is the last comfortable window to book Ushuaia accommodation and tours before prices rise and availability tightens. The austral summer runs from November through March, and it is the only season when Tierra del Fuego National Park, the Beagle Channel, and the penguin colonies all operate at full capacity. What you book in the next few weeks will cost noticeably more by mid-November.

How Each Month Plays Out

November is the shoulder entry point. Prices sit 30 to 40% below their January peak, the national park trails are crowd-free, and the town is still adjusting to the new season. Days are long, with sunset around 21:30 by late November and later still by December. Weather averages 10 to 14°C; rain and wind are normal. Magellanic penguins return to Isla Martillo from October, so November visits catch an early and uncrowded view of the colony.

December to February is the core peak. January is the busiest month, when Antarctic cruise ships fill the port, hotel rates reach their seasonal maximum, and the most popular Beagle Channel tours sell out well in advance. Penguin chicks are visible from December through January, making this period the best for wildlife. The Estancia Harberton, the oldest farm in Tierra del Fuego and the main access point for Isla Martillo penguin tours, runs full-day excursions that require advance booking from mid-December.

March sees visitor numbers drop quickly after the southern carnival period. Most operators maintain their schedules through mid-March, then begin reducing frequency. The national park remains open and hiking conditions in March are often more stable than at peak summer.

What to Reserve Now

Accommodation: Ushuaia’s hotel stock is concentrated in the town centre, the port area, and the road towards the national park. The mid-range and upper brackets fill first. Budget hostels have more capacity, but the better-located ones in the centre book out for January by November. If you are travelling in December or January, booking now adds roughly six weeks to your window before prices increase.

Beagle Channel navigations: Half-day circuits taking in sea lion colonies, cormorant nesting islands, and the Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse depart from the main pier near the centre. In November a same-day booking is usually possible. In January, booking a week ahead is the standard. See current Ushuaia tours and Beagle Channel circuits to compare operators and departure times.

End of the World Train (Tren del Fin del Mundo): This narrow-gauge steam railway runs from Estación del Fin del Mundo, 8km from town, into Tierra del Fuego National Park on the route used by the original prison camp. It operates daily during summer with multiple daily departures. No advance booking is required but pre-purchasing at the station or online saves queuing during busy weeks.

Antarctic cruises: Ushuaia is the main departure port for expedition cruises to the Antarctic Peninsula. If Antarctica is part of your plans, October is past the ideal booking window for prime January and February departures; most reputable expedition operators sold those berths six to twelve months ago. Last-minute berths (released two to four weeks before departure at reduced rates) remain the realistic route for late planners. November and December departures carry more availability.

Getting to Ushuaia

Ushuaia Malvinas Argentinas Airport (USH) receives multiple daily flights from Buenos Aires Aeroparque (AEP) and Ezeiza (EZE). Aerolíneas Argentinas and JetSmart both serve the route. Note that between 24 October and 11 November 2026, Ezeiza runway works may affect your connection, so check your routing and allow extra time if transiting through EZE. Full details on the Ezeiza works are here.

Direct Buenos Aires to Ushuaia flights take around 3 hours 30 minutes. Fares book out for the Christmas and January peak by late October.
