Visiting Argentina in November: Weather, Events & Travel Tips
November is the final month before Argentina’s high season begins in earnest, and it combines excellent weather across most regions with a level of international tourism that is busy but not overcrowded. This is one of the country’s most consistently recommended travel months.
Buenos Aires in November
Buenos Aires reaches its most photogenic peak in November. The jacaranda trees — which line the wide avenues of Palermo, Recoleta, and across the northern barrios — are in full bloom, creating the purple canopy that characterises the city’s spring image. Temperatures reach 23–27°C with low humidity (compared to the oppressive January heat). Pavement café culture is at its best.
The city’s cultural life is in full swing. The Buenos Aires Tango festival runs in August, but milongas are year-round and November brings a strong visiting population to the city’s tango circuit. The Sunday Feria de Mataderos continues its gaucho-culture programme.
Día de la Tradición (November 10): This national holiday celebrates Argentine gaucho culture and the legacy of the gaucho poet José Hernández. The main celebrations take place in San Antonio de Areco, a small town about 110km northwest of Buenos Aires, with horse parades, folk music, traditional crafts, and asado. It’s one of the most authentic cultural events in the country and worth a day trip from the capital.
Late November sees temperatures beginning to build toward summer levels, and the humidity starts to tick up. The window of perfect Buenos Aires spring weather is roughly October to mid-November.
Patagonia in November
November delivers some of the best conditions in Patagonia. Daylight hours extend to 16–17 hours in El Chaltén — the sun sets well after 9pm — giving flexibility for long hiking days. All trails are open, all accommodation is operating, and the landscape is at its most colourful with wildflowers on the steppe and the glaciers at full size.
Crowds: November sees higher visitor numbers than September or October, but the peak rush of January and February is still ahead. Mid-week dates are manageable; weekends fill up. Book accommodation at least 2–3 months ahead.
Weather: Patagonian wind remains a constant factor throughout November. The strongest wind season is October to February — carry wind-resistant gear at all times.
Mendoza in November
Mendoza in November is excellent for wine tourism. The vineyards are in full growth, temperatures are warm (25–28°C), and the Andes are still snow-capped before the summer melt. Winery tours are busy at weekends; weekdays are uncrowded. The Uco Valley — about 100km south of Mendoza city — is worth the trip for higher-altitude estate wineries.
Northwest Argentina in November
The northwest starts warming significantly in November — Salta city reaches 28–30°C in the day. The dry season is ending; the wet season arrives in December. November is the last fully reliable month for the high-altitude routes. Salinas Grandes and the Quebrada de Humahuaca are accessible and the skies are clear.
Iguazú Falls in November
November is a very good month for Iguazú. The falls are running at medium volume, the weather is hot but slightly more manageable than midsummer, and crowds are lower than January. Wildlife in the national park — toucans, parrots, coatis, jaguars in remote areas — is active. The catwalks are open.
Practical Notes for November
- Patagonia must-books: November El Chaltén is heavily booked by September. If this is a core part of your itinerary, reserve accommodation the moment dates are confirmed.
- Buenos Aires jacaranda: The bloom typically peaks in the first two weeks of November. It varies by year — some seasons the peak falls in late October.
- Buenos Aires summer approach: Late November humidity in Buenos Aires is noticeably higher than October. If you’re heat-sensitive, target early November.
- Flights: November sees rising demand for Buenos Aires flights as the Southern Hemisphere high season approaches. Book international flights at least 2–3 months ahead.
- Northwest wet season: Travel to the Quebrada de Humahuaca and Salinas Grandes should ideally be scheduled before late November if possible, as the December rains can affect road conditions.
